Frequently Asked Questions

About Enrollment

  • When can my child enroll? Is mid-year enrollment possible?

The new school year begins in April, and we also welcome enrollment partway through the year. Please first check the availability of your preferred class. Feel free to contact us via LINE (ID: @aikb35) or our contact form.

  • Are there designated items such as uniforms and bags?

There are designated items: a uniform, gym wear, a bag, and a tote bag. All can be purchased at the school during the pre-enrollment orientation or after enrollment.

  • How many classes are there per grade, and what is the capacity?

There are three classes per grade, with a capacity of 18 children each. We value a small-class environment where we can attend to each child closely.

  • From what age can a child enroll?

Children can enroll from our youngest class (K0, the 2-year-old class). Our affiliated Yurikago Nursery 39 cares for children from around 1 year and 4 months of age, allowing a smooth transition up to AIKB35.

  • Are there class reassignments?

Class reassignments may take place at the time of advancing a grade or even mid-term, depending on class operations and the number of children.

  • How does advancement from Yurikago Nursery to AIKB35 work?

Yurikago Nursery 39 is an affiliated school of AIKB35. Children experience group life from around 1 year and 4 months of age and, as they grow older, can advance smoothly to AIKB35's K0 class. Because it connects naturally from a familiar environment, the transition places less burden on the child and can be made with peace of mind.

  • How do I apply for a school visit or an online interview?

Please apply through the visit application form on our website. A staff member will contact you to arrange a date. We also offer online interviews if you would simply like to hear more first, so please feel free to apply.

  • Do you offer extended care (after-hours childcare)?

Yes, it is available every day school is open. We care for your child from the end of regular hours until 6:30 p.m. at the latest, at a rate of 100 THB per 30 minutes. You can rely on us with peace of mind even on days you get home late due to work. A further discount applies if you pay by the term.

  • What should I do if I can't make it in time for pick-up?

If you are running late for pick-up due to an unexpected situation, just let us know and we will switch to extended care. Please note that up to the following times is within regular care:

    • Without after-school: until 3:00 p.m.
    • With after-school: until 4:00 p.m.

After that, extended care (paid) applies. Please contact us first.

  • How do you respond if my child gets injured or develops a fever at school?

We prioritize your child's safety and health, and respond as follows:

    • Minor injuries (scrapes, bruises, etc.): We provide first aid at school and report to you.
    • Fever: We contact your registered emergency contact and ask you to pick up your child.
    • Serious injuries: Depending on urgency, we promptly transport the child to a hospital and immediately contact your emergency contact.
  • Please tell me about your security measures.

To protect children's safety, we take multiple measures. Security guards are stationed 24 hours a day, and outside visitors are admitted only after being verified via intercom. We have also installed security cameras inside and outside the school - at the main gate, playground, parking area, and more - and monitor the footage in real time from the office. We are committed to creating an environment where parents can entrust their children to us with peace of mind.

  • How is the indoor temperature managed?

All rooms are fully air-conditioned, so children stay comfortable even on hot Bangkok days. In addition, every classroom and the staff room is equipped with a Plasmacluster ion air purifier and humidifier, maintaining a clean air environment with viruses and allergens removed.

  • Is there swimming in the curriculum?

Currently, we do not offer swimming instruction. However, depending on the activity, we may set up a pool for water play.

  • Is there a parents' association (PTA)?

There is no PTA. We value a relationship in which we can celebrate your child's growth together, without placing a burden on parents.

  • On days with high PM2.5, is outdoor play not possible?

On days when PM2.5 levels are high, we prioritize children's health and refrain from outdoor activities. On such days, we incorporate activities like the following so children can still spend a fulfilling time indoors:

    • Indoor play: We set aside time for children to freely enjoy blocks, puzzles, picture-book read-alouds, and more.
    • Arts & crafts: We do activities that nurture creativity, such as coloring, origami, and clay play.
    • Indoor exercise: Using the hall and entrance, we include active play such as dodgeball, tag, a climbing wall, and monkey bars.
    • Story time: Through read-alouds and storytelling, we nurture imagination and a sense of language.

Even on days we can't go outside, we strive to make it a day full of learning and play.

Meals

  • Please tell me about allergy accommodations for school lunches.

The allergens we can currently accommodate (exclude) are as follows:
    Milk, eggs, and crustaceans

Fees

  • Is the lunch fee included in the tuition?

Because lunch is optional, it is charged separately from tuition. Please check the fees page for details, or contact the school.

  • Where can I check the fees for after-school (extracurricular) classes?

After-school classes are registered each term. Because the number of session days in a term varies depending on the day of the week you attend, fees vary as well. If you contact us, we will provide details individually.

  • Can the line items on invoices or receipts be changed?

Our fees are set and billed in accordance with the accreditation of the Thai Ministry of Education. Therefore, from a compliance standpoint, we cannot consolidate disclosed fee items beyond the permitted fee limits - for example, billing bus fees as part of tuition. We appreciate your understanding.

  • Can you issue the invoice addressed to a company?

Because it is the child who receives the educational service, the invoice is issued in the child's name. However, we can include the company name and details in the remarks section, so please let us know if you would like this. If the invoice must be issued in the company's name, we will discuss it with you individually.

  • Where can I check the details of the various fees?

You can check the latest fees on the fees page. If you have any questions, please feel free to contact us.

Advancement & Transfer

  • Please tell me about pathways after graduation.

It varies by year, but roughly 70-80% of children go on to the Japanese School in Bangkok, and 20-30% to international schools.

For families returning to Japan, we also have a track record of children advancing to local public elementary schools and international schools. For those wishing to continue at a kindergarten, many families choose schools that offer immersion education or an English-Japanese bilingual environment. We are happy to discuss future pathways, so please feel free to contact us.

  • What should I do if we need to withdraw mid-year due to a job transfer, etc.?

When considering withdrawal, please contact the school as early as possible. We will carefully guide you individually through the withdrawal procedures and the settlement of any fees.

  • Can you issue the documents needed when transferring schools or returning home?

We can issue documents needed for transferring schools or returning home, including a certificate of enrollment. Please consult the school in advance about the types of documents you need and the time required to issue them.

Education Visa

  • Can you issue an education visa?

Our school is an officially accredited educational institution recognized by the Thai Ministry of Education, so enrolled children are eligible for an education visa. We prepare all the school-side documents required for the application.

Please note that the visa application procedure itself must be carried out by parents. The same applies to the accompanying visa (the parent's Non-Immigrant O visa). If you have any questions, we can share general information based on our past experience, so please feel free to consult us.

  • Are there children attending on an education visa?

Yes, we have such children enrolled. In recent years we have received more inquiries from families considering relocating to Bangkok for the purpose of "education migration," and more cases of consultation about the process from obtaining a visa to enrollment. If you are interested, please get in touch with us.

  • Can I also consult about the parent's accompanying visa (Non-Immigrant O visa)?

The accompanying visa application must be carried out by parents themselves, but if you have questions about the application, we can provide general information based on our experience. For final procedures and decisions regarding visas, we recommend consulting the Thai authorities and a specialist (visa agent).

Language & Curriculum

  • What specifically does trilingual education involve?

Rather than teaching English, Japanese, and Thai as separate subjects, we use an "immersion education" approach where children naturally acquire all three languages through daily school life. English is used every day in a full-immersion environment; Japanese is learned through cultural events and cognitive activities; and Thai focuses on understanding the local culture and practical communication.

  • Is it okay if my child cannot speak English at the time of enrollment?

Yes, that is perfectly fine. Our homeroom team carefully supports children so they can gradually get used to an English environment through natural exposure. Many children start out unable to speak English when they enroll and naturally acquire the language through daily life.

  • Are there teachers who can speak Japanese?

Yes, we have staff who can speak Japanese. In addition to supporting your child, we handle communication and consultations with parents in Japanese, so you can feel at ease.

  • Which language do the children speak among themselves?

Since many enrolled children are Japanese, free communication among the children is mainly in Japanese. On the other hand, in the specialized English, Thai, and Japanese lessons, they repeatedly input and output in each language, naturally fostering an environment where they become familiar with all three.

Many children begin using the English they learned in lessons during play with friends, and seeing this spontaneous desire to "try using the words I learned" in everyday life is a scene unique to AIKB35. We provide a bilingual/multilingual environment where, based on Japanese, children also naturally acquire English and Thai.

  • Does the school have an international program?

At AIKB35, we have merged our former bilingual and international programs and, as a further development, discontinued the international program.

In the current program, English learning is maintained at the same level as an international school, while we also provide an environment where Japanese and Thai are acquired in good balance and with confidence.

For English, we practice full-scale English education on par with international schools. For Japanese, children complete reading and writing of hiragana and katakana by graduation. For Thai, they acquire literacy that allows reading and writing at the word level.

By learning three languages systematically from early childhood, we build a solid trilingual foundation that will let children play an active role on the global stage with confidence.
